About PADNA

About the Powerhouse Arts District Neighborhood Association

PADNA organized in April 2006 for the following reasons:

• To address the quality of life issues that our developing neighborhood faces everyday.
• To generate excitement and traffic in our dynamic neighborhood.
• To develop a strong supportive community network through community discussions and functions.

PADNA provides a forum for members to report, learn about, consider, take positions on, and act on issues of local concern, including all of Downtown Jersey City and, where appropriate, the entire city and county.

We support historically appropriate and sensitive development consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and support the development of a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use, vibrant neighborhood with emphasis on the arts, entertainment and culture. We serve as a members’ liaison to other organizations, to government agencies and others. PADNA fosters a community among residents of the area.

We get involved and are committed to quality of life of our neighborhood. We regularly contact and discuss with city officials about handling crime waves, zoning issues and traffic problems. We continue to successfully work with the city agencies to bring our streets and sidewalks into the 21st century – all the while riding the wave of extreme growth that surrounds us. We encourage the residents to take advantage of the opportunities to work with the city, council persons and our neighbors downtown to make the PAD a pleasant place to live, now and in the future.

PADNA consists of volunteers, with quarterly meetings at this time. The community leaders meet occasionally to coordinate PADNA activities and discuss committee projects.
